Cheap and Easy DIY Picture Wall

When I was a kid, my favorite thing at my great grandma's house was her wall of pictures.  The pictures were of relatives, mostly from her generation and earlier.  I fell in love with her "picture wall" and decided that when I grew up and had my own house, I was going to have one too.

We've had our own house for a little over two years now.  It was time to put up my picture wall.

I was a little daunted at the thought of buying a ton of frames and then having to hang them so I started researching other options.

I decided to opt out of framing my pictures and go for a simpler look, using Scotch Clear Mounting Squares.  The squares are removable which appealed to me since I didn't want to end up with marks on the wall.

Next, I decided that my wall needed a decal to pull it together, so I hit up Etsy for designs.  I found the perfect one at Simple Expressions Art that was simple but beautiful.  When it arrived in the mail (just a few days later!), it came with easy-to-follow directions and only took me about five minutes to put up.

The next step was to pick out my favorite pictures of my family.  I printed them through Mpix and was able to customize the sizes I wanted.  When the pictures arrived in the mail, I used masking tape to stick them to the wall temporarily.

After I had all of the pictures taped to the wall, I stood back (well, as far as I could since I was in a narrow hallway) and checked to be sure I liked the way they were arranged.  Then I grabbed my Scotch Mounting Squares and level and got to work.

Less than an hour after I put up the decal, I was done!

I absolutely love it!  It was easy and cheap to put together, and I can easily add pictures whenever I want.

If you have a picture wall in your house, I'd love to hear how you did it!  Leave a comment and let me know!
